Abstract

Black-foot disease is one of the main soilborne fungal diseases affecting grapevine production worldwide, being particularly important in grapevine nurseries and new plantations, where it causes the young vine decline syndrome. Cylindrocarpon-like asexual morphs belonging to several genera have been associated with the disease. Fully resistant rootstocks are not available for black-foot pathogens; therefore, management strategies rely primarily on the use of an integrated programme including fungicides, biological control agents, hot-water treatment and cultural practices.

In this talk, I will provide an overview of the research on black-foot disease conducted in Spain over the last years, including etiology, fungal quantification, population genetics, disease resistance and control.
